Oxidation in the pit walls due to mine dewatering can increase the acidity in the groundwater and dissolve heavy metals into the pit, thereby increasing the toxicity of the pit lake. WebPoor water quality has major consequences; therefore, we need a solution that is both effective and affordable. This work was motivated by the desire to better understand how to estimate the water quality index (WQI), a single index for expressing water's overall quality, and the water quality class (WQC), a distinct class generated from the WQI.
